let us entertain you

In Boston we have our fair share of T performances. But in Madrid, a crosstown metro ride is not complete without a contortionist, accordeon player, guitarist or old guy belting out flamenco tunes for a few centivos. On Monday, I was lucky to be serenaded by not just one musician, but a full-out jazz combo consisting of a trumpet, a sax, an accordeon, and a full standing BASS. It felt Woody Allen-esque (when he tries to play cello in the marching band?). They started out with Champs Élyeés, and then of course When the Saints come Marching In. But they ended with All of Me, which of course made me beam uncontrolably. I felt a bit like a crazy but that pretty much made my day/week/metro riding experience.
